Artistry made approachable
Bobbi Brown Cosmetics began with a tightly edited idea: makeup could work with someone’s coloring instead of covering it. That practical point of view still offers a useful way to build a routine—start with skin, notice undertone, and add only what earns a place.
Ten lipsticks, one clear point of view
In 1991, makeup artist Bobbi Brown debuted ten brown-based lipstick shades at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. The edit favored a natural-looking result at a moment when heavily made-up looks were common.
The idea soon moved beyond lips. Yellow-toned complexion shades followed, then skin-preparation products—building a system around undertone, texture, and technique rather than a single dramatic look.
The founder left her namesake company in 2016. Today, the brand continues independently of her, while its public philosophy still centers on approachable artistry, skin-first preparation, and easy-to-use formats.
