With gratitude this Veterans Day.
On Wednesday, November 11, we honor the people who have served in the United States Armed Forces. To the veterans in our community: thank you for your service.
It is a day for appreciation, in whatever thoughtful form that takes in your life. A conversation. A message. Time spent listening.
And when the day winds down, there is room for something quieter: taking a little care of yourself. No elaborate ritual required. Just a familiar routine, a clean towel, and a few minutes at the sink.
What does an easy evening skincare routine look like?
Start with gentle cleansing and a moisturizer that suits your skin, following the directions on each product. If you wear makeup, remove it with an appropriate remover first. Keep any prescribed treatment on the schedule your clinician gave you.
The aim tonight is to make familiar care easier to do. You can leave the ambitious bathroom-shelf reorganization for a day when the towels have also agreed to fold themselves.
1. Give makeup its own exit
If you wore makeup, check your remover's instructions before you begin. Waterproof eye makeup needs a formula intended for that area and purpose; avoid tugging at it with a towel. Our guide to removing waterproof eye makeup without rubbing explains how different formats work.
No makeup to remove? Move straight to your usual cleanse.
2. Keep the wash gentle
Use lukewarm water and a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser. Apply it with your fingertips rather than scrubbing with a rough cloth. Rinse, then pat gently with a soft towel.
This step does not need a dramatic finale. Clean skin does not have to feel scrubbed into submission.
3. Finish with familiar moisture
Apply your usual suitable moisturizer as directed. For dry skin, moisturizing while the skin is still slightly damp can help retain water. Follow separate treatment directions when they call for dry skin or a particular order.
Keep tonight's extras optional. A new mask or complicated sequence can wait if it turns a manageable evening into another project.
Make tomorrow evening easier before you leave the sink
Put the cleanser and moisturizer you use within easy reach, with their caps closed. Leave a fresh towel ready. Those two small preparations give tomorrow's routine a clear starting point.
If the evening often gets away from you, try doing your familiar routine before you settle down for the night. The sofa is very persuasive once negotiations begin.
Tonight's takeaway: remove makeup if needed, wash gently, moisturize as directed, and leave your next routine ready to begin.
A quiet moment of your own
This Veterans Day, our gratitude belongs to those who served. As the day comes to a close, we also hope you find a small moment for the everyday care that helps you feel at home in your own routine.
