Clinique’s story began with a question posed in Vogue: could great skin be created? Beauty editor Carol Phillips brought dermatologist Dr. Norman Orentreich’s approach to a wider audience, exploring care tailored to different skin types.
The idea caught the attention of the Lauder family. In 1968, Clinique arrived at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York, with a fresh clinical identity and the now-familiar pale green packaging.
Cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing supplied the original structure. Just as significant was the belief that people should understand their skincare and have clear information about using it.
That educational instinct remains part of Clinique’s character as its collection extends into makeup and body care. The story starts with curiosity, and with making expert knowledge feel approachable.
