La Prairie’s heritage begins beside Switzerland’s Lac Léman, where Clinique La Prairie opened in 1931. Under Dr. Paul Niehans, the clinic became associated with research into cellular therapy and rejuvenation. The setting—a historic manor overlooking the lake and the Alps—remains part of the house’s visual identity.
The skincare brand followed in 1971. That distinction matters: the clinic supplied the scientific inspiration, while the later cosmetics house translated its legacy into a different world of formulas, textures and daily beauty rituals.
