Olaplex began with a question about the structure inside a strand of hair. Founded in 2014 by Dean Christal, the brand developed through work with chemists Craig Hawker and Eric Pressly, bringing bond science into the salon conversation.
Its formulation story focuses on disulfide bonds—the connections within hair that contribute to its strength and shape. This became the foundation of a collection designed around caring for hair exposed to coloring, styling and everyday wear.
The familiar numbered bottles make that scientific idea approachable. Treatments, shampoos, conditioners and finishing products serve different purposes, while sharing the brand’s interest in the condition of the hair fiber.
Olaplex’s current philosophy connects strength, softness and shape under the idea of foundational hair health. It offers a way to think about care beyond a single good styling day: understand the hair’s structure, then choose the products that suit the way you wear and treat it.
