Alessi La Stanza dello Scirocco Stainless Steel Fruit Holder
The Alessi La Stanza dello Scirocco fruit holder is a sculptural centerpiece in mirror-polished 18/10 stainless steel, designed by Mario Trimarchi in 2009. Its open basket is built from small, irregular metal fragments welded together in a dynamic, off-balance arrangement that looks like cards or papers caught mid-air in a gust of wind. The name refers to the windowless room in old Sicilian estates where people sheltered from the hot Sirocco wind, and the arrhythmic geometry draws on the designer's childhood memories. The open-slat form keeps fruit ventilated so it stays fresher, and the piece works as standalone art even when empty. About 10.75 inches across; hand wash, made in Italy.
