Faber-Castell Graphite Aquarelle Water-Soluble Pencils, Tin of 5
Faber-Castell Graphite Aquarelle pencils look like ordinary graphite until water touches them. Then the line dissolves into a wash, which lets one pencil do the work of both drawing and painting, and is why they suit preliminary sketches for watercolor as readily as finished monochrome pieces. Five grades sit in the tin, HB through 8B, so the range runs from a clean light line to a deeply saturated near-black. The core is 3.8 mm and bonded along its whole length inside the barrel, which is what stops it shattering when a pencil hits the floor and keeps sharpening clean all the way down. Certified sustainable forests supply the wood, and the varnish is water-based.
Product Features:
- Draws like ordinary graphite, then dissolves into a wash as soon as water hits it.
- Five grades from HB through 8B, covering a clean light line to a near-black tone.
- A 3.8 mm core bonded down the whole barrel, so it survives being dropped on a floor.
- FSC and PEFC certified wood, finished in water-based varnish, in a metal storage tin.
How to Use:
Sketch as you would with any graphite pencil, then work over the lines with a wet brush to pull them into a wash. Lay the darker grades down first if you want depth in the wash. Let each layer dry before adding the next. Work on paper heavy enough to take water without buckling.
